STOCKTON, Calif. ? Federal investigators are joining the investigation into a fire that destroyed a mosque and damaged a nearby church in Northern California over the weekend.
Helen Dunkel, an investigator with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, told KXTV that the bureau was getting involved in the case in Stockton because a mosque was involved.
The blaze, reported about 4:15 a.m. Saturday, gutted the Masjid Al-Emaan Mosque. The mosque was located in a strip mall, which also houses the Living Water Ministries & Christian Center.
Officials at the center say the small church suffered smoke and water damage.
Work crews using large cranes were at the scene throughout the day Monday clearing some of the debris from the area.
