The 10-year-old New York boy who survived when his suicidal mother drove into the Hudson River with her four children says he is going through a tough time but he's "pulling through."
La'Shaun Armstrong was the guest of honor at a Manhattan fund-raiser Saturday. The event was sponsored by the United Athletes Foundation.
The New York Daily News reports that Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis and former cornerback Reggie Howard each pledged $10,000 to a relief fund that will provide La'Shaun with mentoring, counseling and tutoring.
The boy's 25-year-old mother LaShanda Armstrong loaded her children into a minivan on April 12. She drove down a boat ramp in Newburgh into the river. La'Shaun crawled out a window and survived. The mother and three younger children were killed.
